SIS decided to contribute positively towards World Environment Day 2009 by planting trees in 2 institutes of learning in Seremban, namely King George V School and TAFE College Seremban.
Trees that would be able to provide good shade when they matured were carefully selected. So we selected neem trees which are also said to be of medicinal value, chempaka trees that bear sweet smelling flowers whilst also giving good shade, and mango trees that can bear juicy fruits while providing shade and a healthy haven for birds and insects.
Seven Soroptimists, led by SIS President Datin Kuldeep Kaur Gill and SIS Immediate Past President Susan Ho, who had initially mooted this tree-planting idea, landed at TAFE College to carry out this project. The Principal of the College, Mrs Vijayalakshmi Krishnan was there with some members of her staff as well as her students to enthusiastically get down together with the Soroptimists to plant the saplings.
SIS records its sincere appreciation to the Principal of TAFE College Seremban Mrs Vijayalakshmi Krishnan and the Principal of King George V School, Tuan Hj Zakariah Bin Md.Zin for giving us an opportunity to do something constructive towards World Environment Day 2009.
